CYP1A2 is an enzyme involved in metabolizing estrogens. During menopause, estrogen levels drop significantly, which could theoretically alter CYP1A2 activity. Some studies suggest that certain CYP1A2 variants may be associated with hot flash risk or breast cancer in postmenopausal women. However, the evidence is mostly mechanistic and based on small association studies. There are no robust clinical data to translate a single DNA test result into actionable advice for menopause management. Consumer genetic tests often overstate the importance of individual SNPs.
