Evidence check: Zöliakie Test in the context of Haut

A celiac test in the context of skin symptoms is medically relevant, especially when dermatitis herpetiformis (DH) is suspected – a classic skin manifestation of celiac disease. Diagnosis relies on serological markers (IgA antibodies against tissue transglutaminase, tTG) and, if needed, duodenal biopsy. The evidence for this link is strong (human-strong): nearly all DH patients have underlying celiac disease, and a gluten-free diet resolves both gut and skin lesions. However, a consumer DNA test for HLA-DQ2/DQ8 can only indicate genetic risk, not active disease. Most people with these genes never develop celiac disease.
