What role does tTG IgA play in sleep?

tTG-IgA (tissue transglutaminase IgA) is an autoantibody used as a biomarker for celiac disease. There is no direct evidence that tTG-IgA itself plays a role in sleep regulation. However, celiac disease can affect sleep through several indirect pathways: gastrointestinal discomfort (e.g., nocturnal pain, diarrhea), malabsorption of nutrients (iron, vitamin B12, vitamin D) leading to conditions like restless legs syndrome or sleep apnea, and systemic inflammation altering cytokine profiles. The tTG-IgA level does not have a known direct function in sleep–wake cycles. A positive tTG-IgA test should be interpreted as a marker for possible celiac disease, not as a direct cause of sleep disturbances.
