STI Health Check | Geschlechtskrankheiten-Test: can a microbiome test help?

A microbiome test can provide insights into genital tract dysbiosis (e.g., low Lactobacillus abundance), but it is not a substitute for a dedicated STI test. STIs such as chlamydia, gonorrhea, syphilis, or HIV are caused by specific pathogens that require targeted detection (PCR, culture, serology). While some research links an altered vaginal microbiome to increased STI susceptibility, the evidence is observational and not diagnostic. MyBody-X does not currently offer a validated STI microbiome panel. For accurate STI screening, standard medical tests remain essential. A microbiome analysis may serve as a complementary health check, but it cannot rule out or confirm an STI. Evidence: mixed (mechanistic + observational). Caveat: no direct validation for STI detection via microbiome in this context.
