Can Omega-3 Index help with Fruchtbarkeit?

The Omega-3 Index measures the percentage of EPA and DHA in red blood cell membranes and is primarily validated as a cardiovascular risk marker. Direct evidence linking it to fertility is lacking. However, observational and interventional studies suggest that adequate omega-3 intake (especially DHA) may improve egg quality, embryo development, and sperm parameters. Omega-3 fatty acids also influence hormone regulation and prostaglandin synthesis, which are relevant for conception. The Omega-3 Index as a specific fertility biomarker is not well-studied – the evidence is mechanistic to moderate at best. While omega-3 deficiency may be a modifiable factor in fertility, the index alone does not replace comprehensive fertility workup. MyBody-X does not offer a dedicated Omega-3 Index test; their current products (e.g., Hormon & VitalCheck) cover other markers. For personalized assessment, a validated lab test and medical interpretation are recommended.
