IgE Allergietest: what symptoms are typical?

An IgE allergy test measures specific antibodies to allergens. Typical symptoms of IgE-mediated allergies include: sneezing, runny or stuffy nose, itchy/watery eyes (hay fever), skin rash (hives, eczema), itching, swelling (angioedema), shortness of breath, coughing, gastrointestinal issues, and in severe cases anaphylaxis (drop in blood pressure, circulatory collapse). Important: A positive IgE test indicates sensitization, not necessarily clinical allergy. Many people have elevated IgE without symptoms. Diagnosis requires correlation with symptoms and possibly challenge tests. Evidence for symptoms is human-strong, but the test alone is not diagnostic. Caveat: DTC tests can yield false positives or negatives. Always consult a physician for suspected allergies.
