What role does Eisen-Ferritin Selbsttest play in Fruchtbarkeit?

The iron-ferritin self-test measures ferritin levels as a marker of body iron stores. Balanced iron status is relevant for fertility: iron deficiency can impair ovulation and egg quality, while iron overload may also reduce fertility. However, the isolated ferritin value without clinical interpretation has limited utility. Evidence for self-tests improving fertility outcomes is weak and mostly observational. Marketing often overstates the predictive power. A physician should evaluate ferritin together with inflammatory markers (CRP) and a full iron panel. The test may serve as a screening tool but does not replace comprehensive fertility workup.
