Evidence check: FOXO3 in the context of Wechseljahre

FOXO3 is a gene linked to longevity and cellular stress resistance. In the context of menopause, some GWAS have suggested that certain variants (e.g., rs2802292) may be associated with later age at natural menopause. However, the effect sizes are small and not clinically actionable. The evidence is primarily associative (GWAS), not mechanistic or interventional. A consumer DNA test for FOXO3 cannot reliably predict menopause timing or symptoms. Other genetic loci (e.g., MCM8, BRIP1) and non-genetic factors (e.g., smoking, BMI) play larger roles. Caveat: Direct-to-consumer tests lack regulatory approval for such predictions.
