Can IgE help with Allergie?

IgE (Immunoglobulin E) is a key player in allergic reactions. Elevated total IgE in blood can indicate an allergy, but it is not specific—parasitic infections or certain immune disorders also raise IgE. Specific IgE against individual allergens (e.g., pollen, foods) is measured via skin prick or blood tests and helps identify triggers. However, a positive IgE test alone does not prove clinically relevant allergy—symptoms and sometimes challenge tests are needed. The evidence for IgE's diagnostic role is strong (human-strong), but interpretation requires medical expertise. Beware of overinterpreted results from direct-to-consumer labs: elevated IgE without symptoms is usually not actionable.
