TSH Schilddrüse: what symptoms are typical?

Typical symptoms of abnormal TSH levels depend on whether the thyroid is underactive (hypothyroidism) or overactive (hyperthyroidism). Hypothyroidism (elevated TSH) often presents with fatigue, weight gain, cold intolerance, dry skin, constipation, depression, and difficulty concentrating. Hyperthyroidism (low TSH) commonly includes weight loss despite increased appetite, rapid heartbeat, tremors, heat intolerance, nervousness, and insomnia. However, TSH alone is not sufficient for diagnosis; free thyroid hormones (fT3, fT4) and antibodies are needed. MyBody-X DNA tests can identify genetic variants in genes such as TSHR, DIO2, or PDE8B that influence TSH regulation. These may indicate a predisposition but do not diagnose thyroid disease. The evidence for these genetic associations is moderate to strong, but clinical utility for the general population is limited. Symptoms should always be evaluated together with blood tests and a physician's assessment.
