Is Ferritin Eisenmangel useful for Darmgesundheit?
T
TIKKI knowledge answer
Ferritin is a storage protein for iron and is commonly used as a marker of iron status. Low ferritin (iron deficiency) can indicate impaired iron absorption in the gut, such as in celiac disease, Crohn's disease, or other inflammatory bowel conditions. However, ferritin is not a direct measure of overall gut health. Elevated ferritin may reflect inflammation or iron overload (hemochromatosis), which can also affect the gut. Using ferritin alone to assess gut health is insufficient without additional diagnostic workup. While MyBody-X offers various consumer tests, a ferritin test does not replace medical evaluation for gastrointestinal symptoms. The evidence linking ferritin to gut health is mechanistic and indirect; clinical decisions should rely on complete blood counts, stool tests, and endoscopy when indicated.
