Can Eisen-Ferritin Selbsttest help with fatigue?

An iron-ferritin self-test can provide a clue about iron deficiency, which is a common cause of fatigue. However, fatigue is a very nonspecific symptom – thyroid issues, vitamin D deficiency, sleep disorders, or psychological factors are also possible. The test measures ferritin as the body's iron storage form, but interpretation is not always straightforward: low levels suggest deficiency, but high levels can indicate inflammation or iron overload. Additionally, inflammation can artificially raise ferritin and mask a true deficiency. A self-test does not replace medical evaluation – especially for persistent fatigue, a doctor should assess ferritin in context with other labs (CBC, CRP, vitamin B12, TSH). The evidence for ferritin testing in fatigue is clinically established (practice standard), but standalone self-testing without medical guidance carries risks of misinterpretation. Therefore: the test can be a starting point, but not a substitute for diagnosis or treatment decisions.
