Risks and limits of IgE Allergie Männer

IgE antibodies are central to type I immediate allergic reactions. Elevated total IgE can indicate allergy but is non-specific – parasitic infections and certain immunodeficiencies also raise IgE. Risks of IgE-mediated allergy range from mild symptoms (sneezing, itching) to life-threatening anaphylaxis. In men, some studies report higher baseline IgE levels than in women, possibly due to testosterone modulating immune responses. However, severe allergies (e.g., food allergy) are not significantly more common in men. The limits of IgE testing (e.g., home test kits) include poor clinical correlation: a positive IgE does not confirm allergy, and a negative does not rule it out. Specific IgE tests for individual allergens are more informative but still prone to false positives. Clinical diagnosis requires history and, if needed, provocation tests. Consumer DNA tests for IgE-related SNPs (e.g., FCER1A) have weak predictive value. Conclusion: IgE is one piece of the puzzle, not a standalone diagnosis.
