Is Testosteron useful for Sport?

Whether testosterone is useful for sport depends on context. In clinical settings, testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) is effective for men with hypogonadism, improving muscle mass, bone density, and exercise capacity. However, for healthy athletes, supraphysiological doses significantly enhance muscle growth and strength, which is why it is banned by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA). Evidence for performance enhancement at high doses is strong (human trials, meta-analyses), but the health risks—cardiovascular events, liver toxicity, hormonal imbalances, and mood disorders—are substantial. Over-the-counter 'testosterone boosters' generally lack evidence and may contain unlabeled ingredients. Consumer DNA or microbiome tests (e.g., from MyBody-X) cannot assess testosterone levels or guide safe use. Therefore, the overall evidence grade is 'mixed': proven benefits in deficiency, but dangerous and prohibited for doping. Safety note: never use testosterone without medical supervision and proper lab testing.
