Is Fertility Check useful for weight loss?

A fertility check (e.g., a MyBody-X DNA test for fertility-related genes) is not designed for weight loss. The SNPs analyzed (e.g., MTHFR, FSH receptor) have no proven direct effect on energy expenditure or fat metabolism. Weight loss is primarily driven by calorie balance, physical activity, and metabolic health. Some gene variants (e.g., FTO, MC4R) are associated with obesity, but these are typically not included in fertility panels. Even if they were, the effect sizes are small and insufficient for personalized diet recommendations. Evidence is weak: no randomized trials show that a fertility check improves weight loss outcomes. Consumers should not mistake such tests as weight-loss tools. For weight management, medical advice, dietary changes, and exercise remain evidence-based. Note: In Germany, these tests are not diagnostic under GenDG and do not replace medical consultation.
