How are Skincare DNA and Allergie related?

The link between skincare DNA tests and allergies is scientifically weak. Some consumer tests analyze variants in genes like FLG (filaggrin), which are associated with dry skin and a modestly increased risk of atopic dermatitis – a condition often linked to allergies. However, these genetic markers explain only a small fraction of the risk; environmental factors, skincare routines, and individual exposures are far more important. The evidence comes mostly from association studies, not from clinical trials showing that adjusting skincare based on these DNA results prevents or reduces allergies. Moreover, many tests lack independent validation. Therefore, skincare DNA tests are not a reliable tool for allergy prediction or management. For allergy concerns, standard medical testing (e.g., skin prick tests, specific IgE) remains the evidence-based approach.
