The idea of using a DNA test to infer blood count parameters (e.g., hemoglobin, iron, red blood cells) is appealing but has weak scientific support. While certain rare variants (e.g., in HFE for hemochromatosis or G6PD deficiency) can affect blood values, they are uncommon and often not covered by consumer panels. Most blood count traits are polygenic and heavily influenced by diet, lifestyle, and environment. A DNA test cannot reliably predict your current blood status. A standard blood test ordered by a physician remains the gold standard. Be cautious of marketing claims that overstate the predictive power of genetics for routine blood work.
