How are Ferritin Eisenmangel and Darmgesundheit related?

Ferritin, the iron storage protein, and gut health are closely linked. Iron deficiency (low ferritin) can impair the intestinal barrier, weaken mucosal immunity, and alter the gut microbiome. Conversely, gut conditions like celiac disease, Crohn's disease, or dysbiosis can reduce iron absorption, leading to ferritin deficiency. Evidence comes from clinical observations and human studies, but causal pathways are not always clear-cut.
