How are APOA2 and blood sugar related?

The link between APOA2 and blood sugar is not well-established. APOA2 encodes apolipoprotein A-II, a component of HDL. Some GWAS (e.g., rs5082) have suggested associations with fasting insulin and insulin resistance, but effect sizes are small and replication inconsistent. Mechanistically, APOA2 may influence HDL metabolism, which could indirectly affect glucose homeostasis, but clinical utility is lacking. Consumer DNA tests often overstate such variants. Blood sugar issues should be assessed via standard lab tests (fasting glucose, HbA1c). Evidence: gwas/mechanistic, insufficient for clinical recommendations.
