What to watch with IgE Allergietest and blood sugar?

For an IgE allergy test (blood test for specific IgE antibodies), fasting is generally not required because food intake does not significantly affect IgE levels. However, a severe allergic reaction can temporarily raise blood sugar via stress hormones. If you are also measuring fasting blood glucose, you must follow the standard fasting period (8–12 hours) for that test. For a skin prick test, antihistamines must be stopped, but blood sugar is irrelevant. Important: An elevated IgE level alone does not diagnose allergy – it must be correlated with symptoms and possibly provocation tests. Blood sugar fluctuations can be influenced by an allergy elimination diet (e.g., removing certain foods), so monitoring glucose may be useful if food allergies are suspected.
