LDL (low-density lipoprotein) is primarily a cholesterol carrier and does not directly regulate blood glucose. However, an indirect link exists: elevated LDL often accompanies metabolic syndrome, which includes insulin resistance and impaired glucose tolerance. Oxidized LDL can promote inflammation that impairs insulin signaling. Nevertheless, LDL is not a biomarker for glycemic control—HbA1c, fasting glucose, and insulin are more relevant. Genetic tests (e.g., APOE) can influence LDL levels but have weak predictive power for blood sugar issues. Evidence is mostly mechanistic and epidemiological; robust RCTs are lacking.
