How are Eisen-Ferritin Selbsttest and Müdigkeit related?

An iron-ferritin self-test measures ferritin levels, which reflect the body's iron stores. Low ferritin is a well-established cause of fatigue, even without anemia (non-anemic iron deficiency). However, fatigue is highly non-specific and can stem from many other factors (sleep deprivation, stress, thyroid issues, chronic inflammation). A self-test provides only a single snapshot; interpretation depends on age, sex, inflammation status, and time of day. Acute inflammation can falsely elevate ferritin, masking a true deficiency. Conversely, elevated ferritin may indicate hemochromatosis or an inflammatory response, both of which can also cause fatigue. The evidence linking iron deficiency to fatigue is strong (human-strong), but the predictive value of a single self-test is limited. Without clinical correlation (complete blood count, transferrin saturation, CRP), supplementation should not be initiated. The test can serve as a screening hint but does not replace medical diagnosis. Safety note: iron overload is toxic; only act after physician confirmation.
