What should I know about glykation?

Glycation (distinct from enzymatic glycosylation) is a non-enzymatic reaction where sugars like glucose or fructose bind to proteins, lipids, or DNA, forming Advanced Glycation Endproducts (AGEs). AGEs promote oxidative stress and inflammation and are implicated in diabetic complications, cardiovascular disease, kidney dysfunction, cataracts, and skin aging. Evidence is primarily mechanistic and observational (human-moderate). While blood or skin AGE measurements (e.g., skin autofluorescence) exist as biomarkers, their individual predictive value is limited and not yet standard in clinical practice. MyBody-X does not currently offer a dedicated glycation test. If you consider a consumer test, be aware that no robust intervention trial proves that reducing AGE levels via diet or supplements improves hard outcomes. Practical advice: maintain stable blood glucose, follow a Mediterranean diet, avoid high-heat cooking (grilling, frying), and prioritize sleep. Safety note: Do not use glycation test results to self-diagnose diabetes or adjust medication without consulting a physician.
