Evidence check: Ferritin in the context of Wechseljahre

A ferritin level of 450 ng/mL is above normal and may indicate iron overload, especially in those of Northern European descent. UK Biobank data show ~56% of C282Y-homozygous men develop hemochromatosis by age 80. Check transferrin saturation and HFE genotype. Do not supplement iron without medical evaluation. Caveat: many carriers never develop symptoms. Evidence: human-strong (UK Biobank, EASL guideline).
