Can IgE Allergietest help with Darmgesundheit?

An IgE allergy test measures specific antibodies to allergens and is primarily used to diagnose type I allergies (e.g., pollen, foods). It cannot directly assess gut health. Gut health involves microbiome composition, barrier function, inflammation, and digestive capacity – none of which are captured by IgE tests. While IgE-mediated food allergies (e.g., milk, egg, nuts) can cause gastrointestinal symptoms, most food intolerances (lactose, fructose, histamine) and gut disorders (IBS, celiac disease, IBD) are not IgE-mediated. Comprehensive gut diagnostics require stool tests (microbiome, calprotectin, elastase), breath tests (lactose, fructose), or endoscopy with biopsy. An IgE test may be useful as part of an allergy workup but does not replace gut health assessment. Evidence for using IgE tests for non-allergic gut complaints is weak.
