CYP2C19 is a drug-metabolizing enzyme, primarily involved in breaking down medications like proton pump inhibitors, antidepressants, and clopidogrel. There is no robust human evidence that CYP2C19 variants directly affect fertility. Some indirect associations have been proposed – for example, via metabolism of estrogens or the efficacy of ovulation-inducing drugs – but effect sizes are small and not clinically meaningful. Most fertility issues stem from other factors (hormonal status, age, lifestyle, anatomy). A DNA test for CYP2C19 cannot predict or explain fertility problems.
