Mechanistically, FUT2 may affect the skin microbiome via host glycans or modulate systemic immunity through the gut-skin axis, but no human studies have validated a direct role in skin aging, glycation, or collagen health. Consumer DNA tests often overstate these links. The evidence is mechanistic and indirect, with small effect sizes. Therefore, FUT2 genotyping is not clinically actionable for skin outcomes at this time.
