What role does CYP2C19 play in Langlebigkeit?

CYP2C19 is a cytochrome P450 enzyme primarily involved in drug metabolism (e.g., clopidogrel, proton pump inhibitors, antidepressants). A direct role in longevity is not established. However, genetic variants (*2, *3, *17) can alter drug efficacy and toxicity – for example, poor metabolizers of clopidogrel have higher cardiovascular event rates, which may indirectly shorten lifespan. Some studies also suggest links to cancer risk, but effect sizes are small and context-dependent. Evidence comes from observational studies and pharmacogenetic guidelines (CPIC), not from longevity RCTs. Consumer DNA tests often overclaim clinical utility. Lifestyle, diet, and environmental factors remain the primary determinants of lifespan. Testing CYP2C19 alone for longevity prediction is not recommended.
