How are CYP2D6 and Blutzucker related?

CYP2D6 is a phase I drug-metabolizing enzyme, not directly involved in blood glucose regulation. There is no strong evidence for a direct causal relationship between CYP2D6 genetic variants and fasting glucose or insulin resistance. Indirect links exist: many drugs metabolized by CYP2D6 (e.g., certain beta-blockers, antidepressants, antipsychotics) can affect glucose metabolism. In individuals with extreme CYP2D6 phenotypes (poor or ultrarapid metabolizers), altered drug levels might secondarily influence blood sugar. However, robust studies confirming an independent association between CYP2D6 genotype and glycemic traits in the general population are lacking. The evidence grade is 'unclear'. Established factors like diet, physical activity, BMI, and other genes (e.g., TCF7L2, GCK) are far more relevant. A CYP2D6 genetic test is not useful for predicting blood sugar levels.
