Can IgE help with Stress?

IgE (immunoglobulin E) is primarily involved in type I hypersensitivity reactions (allergies) and defense against parasites, not in stress regulation. Elevated IgE levels indicate an allergic condition or parasitic infection, not psychological or physiological stress. While chronic stress can modulate the immune system and may indirectly exacerbate allergic responses—for example by shifting the Th1/Th2 balance or increasing histamine release—IgE itself is not a validated biomarker for stress. Established stress markers include cortisol, alpha-amylase, heart rate variability, and validated questionnaires. Marketing IgE as a “stress test” lacks scientific support. If you want to assess your stress levels, use evidence-based methods. IgE testing remains useful for allergy diagnosis, not stress assessment.
