What role does TSH Schilddrüse play in Darmgesundheit?

TSH (thyroid-stimulating hormone) regulates thyroid function and indirectly affects gut health. Thyroid hormones increase gut motility, maintain barrier integrity, and modulate the microbiome. Hypothyroidism (elevated TSH) is associated with constipation, reduced microbial diversity, and increased intestinal permeability. Hyperthyroidism (low TSH) can cause diarrhea and malabsorption. Evidence comes from clinical observations and animal studies – the causal mechanism is well-established, but individual variability is high. MyBody-X offers TSH as a blood biomarker, not a DNA test. Caveat: TSH alone does not provide a complete thyroid picture; fT3/fT4 and antibodies are often needed. If a thyroid–gut axis disorder is suspected, medical evaluation is necessary. Evidence level: mechanistic/human-moderate.
