AMH (anti-Müllerian hormone) is primarily known as a marker of ovarian reserve and is widely used in fertility medicine. Levels decline with age in women, reflecting the diminishing egg supply. Some observational studies suggest that higher AMH levels in midlife may correlate with later menopause, which in turn has been associated with a slightly longer lifespan. However, the evidence is moderate and not causal—these are correlations, not direct longevity predictors. AMH is not a validated biomarker for general longevity or healthspan. In men, AMH plays a different role related to testicular function. Consumer DNA tests that promote AMH as a longevity marker often overstate the scientific basis. Clinically, AMH measurement is only useful for fertility assessment. Any interpretation in the context of longevity should be cautious and ideally discussed with a healthcare provider.
