What does a high Testosteron result mean?

A high testosterone result in a biomarker test (e.g., saliva or blood) is a laboratory finding that can have many causes. Possible reasons include: physiological variation (time of day, age), exogenous testosterone or other hormone use (including doping), adrenal or testicular tumors, congenital adrenal hyperplasia, or thyroid dysfunction. A single elevated value without additional markers (free testosterone, SHBG, LH, FSH, cortisol) is insufficient for diagnosis. In women, high testosterone may indicate PCOS or other endocrine disorders. Important: consumer self-tests often lack clinical validation and can be confounded by inflammation or sample quality.
