Is Folsäure useful for Fruchtbarkeit?

Folic acid (vitamin B9) is well-established for fertility, especially in women planning pregnancy. Adequate intake before and during early pregnancy significantly reduces the risk of neural tube defects. In men, some evidence suggests folic acid may improve sperm quality (motility, morphology), but the data are less consistent. The recommended dose for women trying to conceive is 400–800 µg/day; a similar amount is often suggested for men. Important: supplementation does not replace medical evaluation for infertility. Genetic testing for MTHFR variants may indicate increased needs, but evidence for genotype-based dosing is still weak. Overall, folic acid is a useful, safe, and inexpensive supplement to support fertility, but not a cure-all.
