Can STI Test help with fatigue?

An STI test can help with fatigue only if an undiagnosed sexually transmitted infection is the underlying cause. Chronic infections such as HIV, syphilis, or hepatitis B/C can indeed cause fatigue, but this symptom is highly non‑specific – most people with fatigue do not have an STI. Without risk factors (e.g., unprotected sex, multiple partners), an STI test is not a reasonable first step for fatigue. The evidence is based on clinical consensus, not on trials of STI testing for fatigue. A negative test does not rule out far more common causes (iron deficiency, thyroid dysfunction, sleep disorders, stress). Therefore, an STI test should only be considered when there is specific exposure or other suggestive symptoms, not as a general fatigue workup.
