Can MC4R help with Blutzucker?

MC4R (melanocortin 4 receptor) is a key regulator of energy balance and appetite. Some studies suggest it also plays a role in glucose homeostasis, for instance by modulating insulin secretion and sensitivity. However, the effects of common variants (e.g., rs17782313) on blood sugar are mostly indirect and modest – mediated primarily through BMI. A single MC4R gene test cannot provide clinically actionable predictions for blood glucose. Evidence is human-moderate, based on GWAS and mechanistic studies. Caveat: consumer DNA tests often overstate the significance of single variants. Blood sugar management is far more influenced by diet, exercise, and medication. Genetic counseling is recommended if results are concerning.
