hsCRP (high-sensitivity C-reactive protein) is a well-established biomarker of systemic inflammation. Chronically elevated hsCRP levels (≥2 mg/L) are associated in epidemiological studies with increased risk of cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes, and premature mortality – all factors that can shorten lifespan. However, hsCRP is not a direct 'longevity marker' but rather an indicator of inflammatory processes that may accelerate aging. The evidence is largely based on observational studies; randomized trials of hsCRP reduction (e.g., with statins) show mixed results regarding overall mortality. Moreover, hsCRP is influenced by many factors: infections, smoking, obesity, physical activity, and diet. A single hsCRP value therefore says little about individual longevity. For a meaningful assessment, multiple measurements over time and in the context of other risk factors are needed.
