Evidence check: hsCRP in the context of Stress

hsCRP (high-sensitivity C-reactive protein) is a well-established inflammatory marker that can be influenced by psychological stress. Studies show moderate associations between chronic stress, elevated cortisol, and slightly increased hsCRP levels. However, the evidence is mixed: many studies are cross-sectional or show small effect sizes, and causality is not clearly established. Moreover, hsCRP is affected by many confounders such as infections, smoking, obesity, and poor sleep. A single hsCRP reading from a consumer test is therefore insufficient to diagnose or manage stress. Clinically relevant thresholds (>2 mg/L) warrant medical follow-up. For stress assessment, validated psychological questionnaires and diurnal cortisol profiles are more informative. Evidence grade: human-moderate (observational, not causal).
