The FUT2 gene variant determines secretor status and influences fucosylation of glycoproteins on mucosal surfaces and skin. This can modulate microbiome composition, which theoretically might affect skin aging through inflammation or barrier function. However, there are currently no direct, robust human studies establishing a causal link between FUT2 and skin aging. The available evidence is limited to mechanistic reasoning and indirect associations (e.g., via gut microbiome). A DNA test for FUT2 alone is therefore not informative for assessing skin aging risk. Skin aging is driven by many factors: UV exposure, lifestyle, diet, hormones, and other genes. The clinical relevance of FUT2 remains unclear. Caution: No validated tests exist for skin aging based on single genes.
