was ist crp wert — what are common causes?

CRP (C-reactive protein) is an acute-phase protein produced by the liver in response to inflammatory cytokines such as interleukin-6. An elevated CRP level in the blood is a non-specific but sensitive marker of systemic inflammation. Common causes include: 1) Infections (bacterial, viral, fungal) – especially bacterial infections often cause marked elevations (>50 mg/L). 2) Chronic inflammatory diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, Crohn's disease, or ulcerative colitis. 3) Tissue damage (trauma, surgery, burns, myocardial infarction). 4) Malignancies, particularly advanced tumors. 5) Metabolic inflammation in obesity, metabolic syndrome, or diabetes (usually low-grade elevation, 2–10 mg/L). 6) Autoimmune disorders (e.g., lupus, vasculitis). 7) Chronic kidney disease. 8) Physiological factors: smoking, aging, pregnancy. Importantly, CRP is not disease-specific – a normal value does not rule out inflammation, and an elevated value requires further investigation. High-sensitivity CRP (hs-CRP) is used for cardiovascular risk assessment but is also non-specific. The evidence for CRP's clinical utility is strong (human-strong), based on decades of clinical research. Caveat: Interpretation must always be in clinical context; a single value without symptoms or further diagnostics is insufficient.
