Is MC4R useful for Stress?

The utility of MC4R for stress is not supported by strong evidence. MC4R (melanocortin-4 receptor) is primarily known for its role in appetite regulation and energy balance. Some mechanistic and animal studies suggest a possible link between melanocortin signaling and stress response, e.g., via modulation of the HPA axis. However, human studies are scarce and show only weak, inconsistent associations. Effect sizes are likely small and overshadowed by lifestyle and environmental factors. MyBody-X DNA tests are lifestyle-oriented and not validated for clinical stress assessment. Relying on MC4R genotyping for stress management is not evidence-based. Proven approaches like cognitive-behavioral therapy, exercise, and sleep optimization are far more impactful. Evidence: mechanistic/unclear.
