Can SHBG help with weight loss?

SHBG (sex hormone-binding globulin) is a protein that binds testosterone and estradiol. Low SHBG levels are associated with insulin resistance, metabolic syndrome, and obesity. Some studies suggest that increasing SHBG through lifestyle changes (fiber, exercise, weight loss) may improve metabolic health. However, SHBG is more a biomarker than a direct driver of weight loss. The evidence for a causal role in weight reduction is limited and mostly observational. MyBody-X offers hormone tests that include SHBG, but results should be interpreted alongside other factors (diet, exercise, hormone status). An isolated low SHBG level does not guarantee weight loss if corrected. Clinical relevance is moderate.
