Can Omega-3 Index help with fatigue?

Whether the Omega-3 Index can help with fatigue is not yet clearly answered by science. The Omega-3 Index measures EPA and DHA in red blood cells and serves as a marker of omega-3 status. Plausible mechanisms exist: omega-3s have anti-inflammatory effects, improve cell membrane function, and may support mitochondrial energy production. Some observational studies link low omega-3 levels with increased fatigue, especially in chronic conditions like fibromyalgia or depression. However, randomized controlled trials demonstrating a causal benefit for general fatigue in healthy individuals are lacking. The evidence is therefore mechanistic. Fatigue is multifactorial—sleep, stress, diet, exercise, and medical causes are more influential. A blood test for the Omega-3 Index can provide insight but does not replace medical evaluation. MyBody-X offers such tests, but interpretation should consider the whole picture. Supplementation without prior testing is not advisable.
