Is STI Test useful for Wechseljahre?

An STI (sexually transmitted infection) test is not specifically indicated for menopause (Wechseljahre). Menopause is a natural hormonal transition and not an STI-related condition. However, during menopause, vaginal dryness and thinning of the vaginal tissue can increase the risk of micro-tears during intercourse, potentially raising STI transmission risk. Routine STI testing is only recommended based on individual risk factors or symptoms, not solely because of menopause. The evidence base is general STI screening guidelines, not menopause-specific. Caveat: An STI test does not replace routine gynecological exams (e.g., cancer screening, hormone assessment). Therefore, its usefulness for menopause per se is limited.
